Book 17

Characters: Telemachos, Odysseus, Penelopia, Peiraios, Theoclymenos, Medon, Swineherder, Melanthios, Antinoos, Eurynome

Summary: Telemachos heads and arrives home so his mother knows he's back and safe. Then he leaves to the market place where he met with his shipmates and took the prophet Theoclymenos back to his house. While this was happening, Odysseus and the Swineherder started to head into town, and on the way they ran into Melanthios who started bagging on Odysseus. They finally arrived at Odysseus's house and his dog recognized him. They went inside and ate dinner and Odysseus agreed to talk with Penelopia later that night.

Why it's important: Odysseus finally arrives back into his own home.

Theme: A theme is Loyalty because when Odysseus arrives home his dog remembers who he is. At first he put his ears up and is ready to bark at him, but then he realizes it's Odysseus so he put his ears back down and goes back and lays down.
