Book 18

Characters: town beggar (Iros), Odysseus, Antinoos, Telemachos, Amphinomos, Eurynome, Penelopia, Melantho, and Eurymachos

Summary: Iros shows up to Odysseus's house and keeps saying he is going to fight Odysseus, and Antinoos was encouraging it. Then when they were going to fight, Odysseus was in the ring ready to go and Iros had to be dragged into the ring to fight. Odysseus wins and he threw him outside to the pigs and dogs. Then Athena made Penelopia lay down and she cleaned her face, and later she woke up and went down stairs and accepted some gifts from the men downstairs.

Importance: It's important because it's the build up for when Odysseus is going to come home.

Theme: Loyalty: Penelopia isn't giving up on Odysseus.
